Effective Methods in Language Teaching

As we all know, the current system of education of Turkey in language teaching is not qualified enough, because it is based on memorizing vocabularies from books and focusing on grammar structures. The dependence of books or memorizing leads to some serious problems for learning, such as forgetting vocabularies easily, losing their originality, and being afraid of making mistakes. The first point is forgetting vocabularies easily. To give an example for this point, some language teachers utilize a method which is writing a vocabulary in five times to memorize.  Because of this, students will forget the vocabularies easily since these vocabularies have not got a place in their life. Instead of this method, I would set a vocabulary game, such as flashcard, role play, and drawing to make vocabularies permanent for students. If they learn vocabularies in an entertaining way, they will not forget them easily. The second point is that some educators focus on the one part of student’s brain which is killing student’s creativity and causing a loss of their originality. To illustrate, dance or art subjects are as important as math, science or language lessons in the schools. People cannot evaluate the student’s success by looking their math or science grades because these subjects do not show the real success of the students. In this way, students are losing their originality because they are all growing to be good at math or science. In my opinion, both of them are equal and significant. So, why we don’t teach math, science and language lessons while dancing or acting. From my point of view, I can teach a new language while dancing, acting and playing. If this useful system takes part on education, students will be more successful. The last point is students are being afraid of making mistakes while speaking or doing some activities related to language teaching. For instance, a student can be so nervous while giving a speech or presentation because he/she can be afraid of making mistake. Because of this situation, the presentation or speech cannot be good enough even if she/he prepares effectively. From my point of view, as an English teacher, I do not want my students to be afraid of making mistakes, because this situation leads to serious losses. For example, it can affect their educational life negatively, they cannot improve themselves, and at the same time they may find themselves guilty of making mistakes which can cause problems in their health. For my future carrier, I will consider this problems and find effective solutions for my students. These points which I mentioned are related to Ken ROBINSON speech. He contributed me to rethink several points. After his some advices and emphases, I consider some essential points that I will apply in my future career to make my students prosperous learning a new language.
